Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Guiding a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered plenty of interesting indie games. However, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is truly a dung attempting to travel to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is simple: you only need a jump control. Across 150 challenges, encounter tough enemies and access a shop to buy outfits for your fecal avatar.
Time your jumps carefully, as a error means beginning again. Leap on floating orbs to hurl your character upward, traverse fragile platforms, and activate switches to reveal hidden paths. Collect currency to purchase tougher stages as things ramps up.
In terms of design, the demo boasts vibrant stages and catchy background music. The retro graphics of shifting geometric shapes may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to recall other games where you play as a dung character, gaming often incorporated toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. And of course, this theme shows up heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive recognition, such as being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is ready currently on Steam, with the complete version planned to debut on computers in the fall.
